2007 Pan American Games Team Information

Dear Athletes,

There are a few items that you should be aware of as we head into the 2007 Pan American Games and team selection. Please do not hesitate to contact me at elpi@usrowing.org or 609.751.0708 should you have any questions.

Selection Procedures: The 2007 Pan American Games Selection procedures can be found on our Web site. Click here for the procedures.

Pan American Games Trials: Click here for specific information regarding PAG Trials.

Mandatory Team Debriefing: There will be a mandatory team debriefing the afternoon of May 24 after the second day of finals for all 2007 Pan American Games team members including staff. In the event that an event runs to a third final, both crews will need to attend the meeting. Team members will need to be present to complete VISA applications forms, take individual headshots, and to try on competition unisuits for sizing purposes. In addition, athletes will be given pertinent information regarding:

  • U.S. Team Processing
  • Flight Details
  • Accommodations
  • PAG Competition Gear
  • Container/Equipment Logistics

Equipment: The container for the games will depart from Mercer Lake on May 25, after the trials are complete. Be prepared to transport your shell into the PAG container. If you are unable to be present at the time of the container loading, you must select a representative who can load your equipment in your place. We anticipate that the container will return to the U.S. in late August or early September.

Passports/VISAs: All members of the 2007 PAG Team will need a VISA to enter Brazil. Because of the short turnaround time and the quantity of VISA’s that need to be issued, this process may be a lengthy one. You will need to hand your U.S. passport over to USRowing staff at the mandatory team debriefing on the 24th.

Health: It is highly recommended that athletes planning to travel to Brazil have their travel vaccinations up to date. For your reference, please log onto the CDC Web site (http://www.cdc.gov/travel/tropsam.htm) and consult with your personal physician to determine your individual needs.

Doping Control: Upon arrival, all athletes are subject to doping control as established by PASO and the Local Organizing Committee, CO-RIO. Athletes are responsible for calling the USADA drug hotline (800.233.0393) prior to taking any medications and making sure the medication they are taking is not on the banned list. A complete guide to banned substances is available by contacting USADA Drug Control and Education Program (800.233.0393) or USRowing (609.751.0708).

Best regards,
