In an effort to continue to improve on the development of college-aged lightweight rowers and their performance at the U23 World Championships and eventually the Olympics, USRowing is happy to announce that Tim McLaren will guide the U23 lightweight program this year. 

McLaren has coached five Olympic medaling crews during the past four Olympics, as well as several U23 medalists.  He will be helped both by Marc DeRose and Linda Muri, who will bring their expertise and experience from coaching this group during the past two summers, as well as by Tim's assistant coaches, Joel Scrogins and Luke Agnini. The camps will be held at California Rowing Club and Harvard University.

Last summer, turn-out increased threefold from what we have had in the past. This year, the camp has been restructured in order to accommodate a greater number of interested athletes, not only in an effort to send more crews of higher quality to compete at the U23 World Championships, but also to keep all of the best college-aged athletes involved in the sport during the summer and raise their ability to row small boats, both sweep and scull.  

Hopefully, this system not only directs athletes to compete for their country but also improves rowers who will be returning to school.

The standards remain the same in that we are looking for athletes that are under 6:23 for 2K and 20:24 for 6K. Please be aware of the stricter FISA standards for weigh-in and if athletes can scull that is a plus. We also want to get younger athletes who may not be at the standard right now but show future promise involved in the system.

All athletes applying for the U23 Camp must be born on or after January 1, 1986.
