Coaching Highlights: Kris Korzeniowski re-joined the USRowing coaching staff in January of 2001 as national coach. Korzeniowski now primarily focuses on the men’s sculling boats. At the 2004 Olympics, his men’s double sculls reached the final, finishing sixth. In 2001, Korzeniowski coached the women’s quadruple sculls to a bronze medal. Prior to returning to the U.S., Korzeniowski served as the head coach of the men’s team and women’s sculling team for the Netherlands from 1996-2000. At the 2000 Olympics, his women’s double and women’s eight won silver medals. In 1999, his women’s double won bronze at the world championships; and in 1998, his women’s double won silver at the world championships. From 1994-96, Korzeniowski served as head coach of the Dutch women’s team. At the 1996 Olympics, his women’s double won bronze. In 1995, three of his boats won medals at the world championships including silver in the double and bronze in the quad and eight. In 1994, his four won gold. Korzeniowski served as the head coach of the Chinese national team from 1993-94, winning three medals at the 1993 World Championships including gold in the four and quad. Korzeniowski served as USRowing’s technical director from 1989-1992, the men’s sweep head coach from 1984-1988, and the women’s head coach from 1977-1981. During his time as technical director, he coached the lightweight women’s double, women’s eight, and women’s double to medals at the 1990 World Championships...As the men’s head coach, he led the eight to a gold medal at the 1987 World Championships, a silver medal at the 1984 Olympic Games, and bronze medals at the 1988 Olympics, 1986 World Championships, and 1985 World Championships. As women’s head coach, he led the eight to a silver medal at the 1981 World Championships and a bronze medal at the 1979 World Championships. Korzeniowski also worked with the Italian and Canadian national teams during his career, leading Canadian boats to two bronze medals at the 1977 World Championships.

Competitive Highlights: As a rower, Korzeniowski was a member of the Polish National Team from 1961-66, competing in the single, double, pair, four, and eight during his five years on the squad. He won the Students’ Championships in the four and eight in 1964 and 1965.

Coaching Education: Korzeniowski has been instrumental in the development of coaching education in the United States and throughout the world. He is the author of USRowing’s Level I Coaching Manual (1992) and has published numerous articles on coaching. He also has produced several coaching videos including Sculling Fundamentals (2005), How to Improve Rowing Technique (1991), and Rowing Technique with Kris Korzeniowski (1985).

Personal: Korzeniowski began rowing in 1958 at the age of 17. He enjoys skiing, reading, and traveling. Korzeniowski is fluent in his native Polish, as well as English and Italian. He also is semi-fluent in Russian. Korzeniowski is married to Emma Kruidhof and has a three-year-old son, Stas.
