Matt Imes joined the USRowing staff in June of 2002 after spending five years as men’s freshman coach and women’s assistant coach at Oregon State University. At the international level, Imes led the men’s eight to a silver medal at the 2001 Nation’s Cup (now called the Under 23 World Championships) and the men’s four with coxswain to a silver medal at the 2000 FISA Non-Olympic World Championships. In 2003, he coached the men’s four with coxswain to a gold medal at the world championships. For his efforts, Imes was named the 2003 USOC Developmental Coach of the Year for the sport of rowing and was a finalist for the overall award. Last year, Imes coached the men’s four to a fifth-place finish and assisted with the men’s eight that won the gold medal. Imes rowed at the University of Wisconsin. Matt is married to Challis Lloyd Imes, and they have a two-year-old son named Logan.
